Mazda's new passenger vehicle plant at AutoAlliance Thailand (AAT) increased the total production capacity of AAT to 275,000 units per year (including CKD units). It produces the Mazda2 and Ford Fiesta for sale in Thailand and other Asia-Pacific markets. Before the new passenger car plant was completed, AAT was already building pickup trucks for export to over 130 markets.

·Mazda Museum Welcomes One Millionth Visitor.

In October 2008, the one millionth visitor passed through the doors of the Mazda Museum, located within Mazda's headquarters facility in Hiroshima. It is the only automotive industry museum in the Chugoku-Shikoku region of western Japan and welcomes an average of 70,000 visitors each year.

·Mazda Hydrogen Rotary Vehicle Takes to the Road in Norway.

In cooperation with HyNor, Norway's national hydrogen project, Mazda began running the Mazda RX-8 Hydrogen RE on public roads in Norway. The hydrogen rotary engine vehicle was used to validate the feasibility of driving a hydrogen car across the country, and was also exhibited at various energy-related events. The RX-8 Hydrogen RE was Mazda's first hydrogen rotary engine model to be driven on roads outside Japan.

Hisakazu Imaki, Mazda's Representative Director, President and CEO, was named the 2006 RJC Person of the Year. It was the first time in 14 years that a Mazda-affiliated person had been given the honor. The previous Mazda recipient was Kenichi Yamamoto, who was Chairman of the Board when he received the award in 1991.

·Introduced all new Mazda5 packed with innovative ideas.

The Mazda Premacy (Mazda5) was the first minivan to join Mazda's lineup of next-generation products that were introduced from 2002. It evolved Mazda's Zoom-Zoom brand promise and featured an innovative packaging concept called "6+one" (six full-time seats plus one foldout seat). The Premacy provided an open cabin space in which all occupants could enjoy a comfortable ride and communicate easily.
