SKYACTIV Technology (Vehicle)

For the happiness of being able to drive and move as one pleases, Mazda provides cars that are pleasant to drive and that all occupants can enjoy the "joy of driving" with less tiring and less car sickness.

The vehicle architecture incorporates a mechanism that maximizes the balancing capabilities of human body. Even on bumps and curves, the car movement is transmitted without delay but gently, so that all occupants can unconsciously and naturally balance and reduce shaking and fatigue.

As for vehicle dynamics, the output of the engine and motor, as well as the braking force, are integrated and precisely controlled according to steering operation. This smooths out changes in the force to the occupants and stabilizes the posture of the car.

With such technologies[*1], Mazda vehicles provide a straightforward feel that allows the drivers to feel the car as if it were a part of their body, as well as a high level of reassuring feeling of control and sickness resistance due to less shaking for all occupants.

[*1] Mazda continues to evolve these vehicle architecture and dynamics technologies, calling them Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture and Skyactiv-Vehicle Dynamics, respectively.

Driver Condition Monitoring

This technology monitors driver's condition anytime anywhere. In the event of an emergency, the car will alert, automatically stop or make an emergency call, before the car is in danger. This provides peace of mind not only to the drivers but also to their family and those around them[*1].

Driver Monitoring

If there is a risk, it will alert the driver and prevent accidents. The driver's distraction, drowsiness, closed eyes, and posture loss are detected by an in-vehicle camera[*1].

Emergency Driving Stopping System (EDSS)

When the driver is detected as unable to drive safely due to a sudden change in physical condition, EDSS automatically slows down and stops the vehicle while notifying the surroundings of abnormalities with hazard lamps with horn sound, to avoid accidents and reduce damage[*1][*2].

External Emergency Calls

After the vehicle is stopped, the system unlocks the doors and automatically calls the outside if necessary, leading to early rescue and life-saving for the driver [*1][*3].

MAZDA CO-PILOT CONCEPT

This system is based on an assumption that a driver is responsible for safe driving. It is intended to reduce damage caused by accidents and physical burden on driving. The system is started under certain conditions, and functions are restrictive in nature. Drivers are strongly encouraged to drive safely without overreliance on the system. This system is not intended to aid sleep driving and driving under deteriorated physical conditions.

Driving Position for Less Fatigue and Driver's Agility

The driving position is conﬁgured to keep your joints at a natural angle, making you more comfortable on long journeys and enabling you to be more agile in an emergency.

Cockpit Design for Concentration on Driving

Displays are laid out according to the type of information, preventing distractions and allowing the driver to concentrate on driving with less fatigue. Information that the driver sees more frequently is laid out in the area by driver's smaller movement.

Organ-type Acceleration Pedal for Less Fatigue

Mazda vehicles use an "organ-type" accelerator pedal that links the movement of the foot with that of the pedal, unlike a "suspended-type" pedal used by many cars. This reduces the fatigue of the driver's legs when driving long distances.

Preventive Safety Technology

This technology supports the driver and reduces the risk of collision. Various safety equipment assists keeping the vehicle away from dangers.

Collision hazard detection in all directions

The combination of sensors such as cameras and sonar promotes the driver's awareness of danger. In danger situations, the system notifies the driver with an audible warning, display, and steering wheel vibration.

Check blind spots on behalf of the driver

Mazda uses superior safety technologies, such as a 360-degree view monitor, to ensure the driver's view and help the driving with confidence.

Automatic brake to reduce collision damage

Mazda's Smart Brake Support (SBS) uses camera and radar sensors to detect the risk of a collision with the vehicle in front. If a collision cannot be avoided, the Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system is activated to reduce the damage.

Reduction of the dangers of long-distance driving

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) to follow the preceding vehicle and Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) to follow the road prevent accidents and reduce risks. They also reduce fatigue during long-distance driving [*1].

Collision Safety Technology

Mazda has achieved a high level of safety performance that minimizes damage for the risk of an accident.

Shock absorption at a collision

In the event of an unavoidable accident for the driver, the vehicle structure is designed to minimize damage to the occupants. The car body collapses while absorbing shock, suppressing the deformation of the passenger compartment.

Multiple SRS air bags

SRS[*1] airbags have long been a crucial part of crash protection. MAZDA uses driver and passenger airbags, plus multiple airbags to protect all occupants.

Occupant protection by seat belts

The seat belt supports the occupant at the optimal angle[*2], even if the seat is moved backward and forward. Regardless of the size of the occupants, it provides high safety performance for everyone.
