③Lecture Content
Introduced in 1996, the Mazda “Demio” was developed under the concept of a “multi-purpose compact” and achieved innovative packaging that defied the conventions of compact cars. With its square body shape and highly flexible seating arrangements, it balanced excellent interior space and cargo capacity despite its small size, earning widespread support from users as a “versatile wagon” that excelled in a wide range of situations, from everyday shopping to weekend leisure activities.
In this presentation, the planning and design managers and designers from that era will discuss the background behind the Demio’s creation, its development philosophy, the challenges involved in its innovative packaging, and the appeal that helped carve out a new segment in the market. We hope you’ll enjoy the story of this iconic car, born from a vision that transcended the boundaries of the compact car category.
To commemorate this special lecture, we will be hosting a special exhibition featuring all generations of the Demio, as well as the Autzam Review—the model on which the first-generation Demio was based.
We invite you to explore the history of the Demio, from its first generation to its evolution into the “zoom-zoom” concept, through the debut of the SKYACTIV-G engine, and up to the embodiment of the Kodo design philosophy.
