How the New Color “Navy Blue Mica” Came to Be: Behind the Scenes of Creating a Beloved Color

To mark the launch of the new CX-5, we will be hosting a special presentation by a member of the Design Division who was involved in the development of the new color, “Navy Blue Mica.”

 

Additionally, this commemorative lecture will be live-streamed at MAZDA TRANS AOYAMA and MAZDA BRAND SPACE OSAKA and KOBE MAZDA EVENTSQUARE! No reservation is required, so feel free to join us.

“Navy Blue Mica,” a new color introduced with the all-new CX-5.We’ll share everything—from what inspired us to develop these new colors to the behind-the-scenes stories.

 

With the development theme of “a color loved as a classic,” we worked closely with our team to incorporate numerous innovative ideas, ensuring that customers around the world can appreciate its appeal in a variety of settings.

 

At this event, using the new Navy Blue Mica as our focus, you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at Mazda’s color development process—a glimpse rarely available to the public.


Special Exhibition

To celebrate the launch of our new “Navy Blue Mica” color, we will be featuring a special exhibition of blue heritage cars. Come experience the many different facets of blue.

Experience Mazda's 100-year history through a 60-minute tour.

 

We'll introduce the challenges and technological innovations from our founding to the present day, featuring actual exhibits and expert commentary. Discover our commitment to craftsmanship and Mazda's unique “story of relentless challenge” on this tour.

Career Exploration Program: The Work of Sand Casting, Polishing, and Painting Craftsmen

 The exhibits featured at the Japan Mobility Show’s “Out of KidZania in JMS” event are coming to the Mazda Museum!In this hands-on experience, you’ll pack sand tightly to create a mold, which a craftsman will then fill with molten metal. Afterward, you’ll polish the cast piece until it shines, and you’ll also have the chance to paint your very own mini Roadster.

 

 You’ll create a bright red metal “Roadster Mini Car” while learning the skills of the craftsmen. By finishing it with your own hands, you’ll gain a deeper appreciation for the joy of making things and the satisfaction of completion.

 

【How to Apply for the Experience】

 ・Numbered tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first- served basis in the lobby of Mazda Headquarters, the bus departure point, on the day of the event.

  Morning Session: Distribution begins at 8:30 AM. Registration closes once the morning session is full.

  Afternoon Session: Distribution begins at 11:30 AM. Registration closes once the afternoon session is full.

Next Time Preview

The Mazda Museum’s special Saturday opening in June 2026 is scheduled for Saturday, June 6. The event will feature a presentation tentatively titled Lecture commemorating the 35th anniversary of the victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans: “Victory Built on the Defeat of 1990: The Story of the Comeback at Le Mans 1991.” Drawing on historical materials, we will look back at the behind-the-scenes story of that race.
