③Lecture Content
The development of the third-generation RX-7 began by questioning the fundamental purpose of sports cars and seeking to create a sports car that would set the standard for the 1990s. This was expressed through the keyword “Shi-Rin-En-Ko” (志・凛・艶・昂※). Central to realizing this was the lightweight, compact, high-output rotary engine. The third-generation RX-7 aimed to be the ultimate pure sports car powered by a rotary engine, maximizing the characteristics of this engine in a way only Mazda could achieve.
In this lecture, Chief Powertrain Engineer Nobuhiro Yamamoto will share the challenges surrounding the birth of the third-generation RX-7, his unwavering commitment to craftsmanship, and his passion for relentless pursuit. Additionally, Koji Kanabe of CLASSIC MAZDA will explain the current status of the third-generation RX-7 restoration project.
※Shi-Rin-En-Ko signifies the following:
志 (Shi): Through the car, the creator's vision is clearly felt.
凛 (Rin): To achieve that vision, there is a resolute determination.
艶 (En): It is filled with an irresistible allure that draws you in.
昴 (Ko): In every aspect—seeing, touching, driving—it is brimming with excitement that stirs the soul.
We are pleased to present a special exhibition of the third-generation RX-7 (FD model). We invite you to experience up close its form, which embodies the development keywords of the era: “Shi-Rin-En-Ko” (志・凛・艶・昂).
