Since 2017, Mazda has cooperated with JAF Hiroshima in implementing traffic safety awareness activities aimed at increasing the number of people wearing seatbelts. Unfortunately, this activity was initiated in response to the low rate of people wearing seatbelts at present.
In FY2020, Mazda participated in a traffic safety event held in Miroku no Sato. In the event, we used a "seatbelt convincer" that simulates being hit by something going five kilometers per hour, a safety quiz for children, and crash simulations using toy cars to teach the importance of everyone wearing a seatbelt. Participants commented, "From now on, I won't start the car until I know that everyone is wearing a seatbelt," "The simulation made me realize how dangerous not wearing a seatbelt is. I will definitely wear a seatbelt from now on," and "I am going to tell my friends as well."

Mazda dispatches instructors to present lectures on safety for senior citizens at local community centers. The lectures are organized by the community centers in response to requests from senior citizens living in areas where transportation by car is a necessity. Many persons of senior age want to continue to drive but are worried about maintaining their licenses and have asked to consult directly with the car maker. In some cases, the families of older drivers have also expressed concern about whether they should continue to drive.
In FY2020, a lecture on safe driving organized by "Kagayaki University,"*, which promotes lifelong learning for senior citizens, was held at a community center in Hiroshima. With 19 participants in attendance and Mazda employees involved in the development of collision performance serving as instructors, the lecture introduced the actual circumstances of traffic accidents, safety measures that drivers can put into immediate practice, and the latest safety technology for achieving a safe and secure automotive society. After the lecture, participants made comments such as, "I learned a lot," and "I want to share this with my family." Even after the lecture finished, participants continued their lively discussion about the latest safety equipment by in front of the vehicles.
