Mazda Maniac: The Collector
Jason East isn’t your average Mazda owner. For a start, he owns a trio of special edition Mazda MX-5s. If that’s not enough, he owns a whole heap of associated Mazda paraphernalia. Oh, and he also made a pilgrimage from the United Kingdom to Mazda Japan with fellow fans from his local MX-5 club.
“It was great to see the passion that goes into making each Mazda,” explains Jason. “I’m addicted to Mazda. I’ve tried to buy other cars but I’ve always regretted it. Mazdas are just alive to drive. I own a limited edition first anniversary MX-5 (pictured), a 20th anniversary model, and a recently restored fifth anniversary edition. I have also owned a third-generation MX-5 and an RX-8, and my wife owns a Mazda2.
“Since the early ’90s I’ve collected MX-5 literature – I’m only missing about four MX-5 brochures. I also own more than 100 die-cast Mazdas. We’re moving to a new house and I’m looking for the largest garage I can find. Hopefully it’ll have enough room to house my own Mazda emporium.”
