1. Racing the Mazda 110S

The history of the automobile and the engine can be said to run along the same line as the history of motor racing. Motor racing pushes forward car and engine technologies and has contributed much to their development.
40 years ago, in May 1967, Mazda Motor Corporation (then Toyo Kogyo Co., Ltd.) launched the world's first dual-rotor rotary engine car, the Mazda 110S. To prove the potential of the brand new rotary engine, the rotary research department entered the grueling Nürburgring 84 hour endurance race. After this, development of a racing version of the Mazda 110S commenced as a means to promote rotary research & development through motor racing.
