Mazda Production and Sales Results for March 2006 and for Fiscal Year 2005

In March 2006, Mazda's domestic production, exports and overseas production exceeded the previous year's figures due to steady demand for the Premacy/Mazda5 and Roadster/MX-5 new models as well as the Atenza/Mazda6. In addition, for fiscal year 2005, Mazda's domestic production, domestic sales and exports exceeded the figures from the previous year due to healthy demand for its new models and commercial vehicles.

 

I. Domestic Production

For the fifth consecutive month since November 2005, domestic production volume exceeded that of the same month last year (+7.1% year-on-year). These results reflect the increased production volumes of the Atenza/Mazda6, Demio/Mazda2, and other new models.
(2) Fiscal Year 2005
For the fourth consecutive year since 2002, the figure for this period increased 11.3% compared to FY2004 due to the launch of new models and steady sales of the Axela/Mazda3 and commercial vehicles.

 

II. Domestic Sales

Domestic sales decreased by 7.9% for the first time since December 2005 due to reduced sales volumes of the RX-8 and Verisa passenger vehicles. Commercial vehicle sales remained steady. Mazda's registered vehicle market share was 5.7% (down -0.6 points compared to March 2005), with a 2.6% (-0.1 points) for microminis segment and a 4.7% (-0.4 points) total domestic market share.
(2) Fiscal Year 2005
For the fourth consecutive year since 2002, total domestic sales increased, up 0.3% from the prior year. This reflects the strong sales of the Premacy/Mazda5, Roadster/MX-5 and contributions from commercial vehicle sales. Mazda's total registered vehicle market share in Japan was 5.9% (unchanged when compared with FY2004), with a 2.7% (-0.1 points) share of the micromini segment and 4.9% total domestic market share (unchanged from FY2004 figures).

 

III. Exports

For eight consecutive months since August 2005, exports have exceeded the figures for the same period last year, with March 2006 exports up 16.0% over March 2005. These results reflect increases in exports of new models and the Atenza/Mazda6. North America-bound Premacy/Mazda5, Roadster/MX-5 and Axela/Mazda3 models were contributors to this increase, reaching a total of 21,642 units (+35.8% compared to March 2005). Exports to Europe also increased by 9.3% to 21,900 units over the same period last year, with Premacy/Mazda5, Roadster/MX-5 and Atenza/Mazda6 models as the major contributors.
(2) Fiscal Year 2005
Exports figures for FY2005 increased for the fifth consecutive year since 2001, up 16% year-on-year. This is attributable to the steady sales of the new Premacy/Mazda5 and Roadster/MX-5 models as well as the considerable contribution of the Axela/Mazda3 to overall export volumes. Exports to North America were 219,364 units, rising 22.4% year-on-year, while European-bound exports numbered 253,672 units, for an 11.4% increase compared to FY2004.

 

IV. Overseas Production

Note: Overseas production units are calculated based on the parts and component shipments for Mazda brand models to be assembled at overseas production facilities.

Overseas production volumes increased for the third consecutive month since January 2006, an increase of 49.1% over the figures for the same period last year. March 2006 was an all-time record for overseas production in the month of March due to increased output volumes of Atenza/Mazda6 to be shipped to North America, Atenza/Mazda6 and Axela/Mazda3 bound for China and output for BT-50 trucks in Thailand. China-bound output volume reached 13,874 units (up 72.6% over March 2005) while North American-bound production was 7,000 units (up 25%).
(2) Fiscal Year 2005
Production for overseas export in fiscal 2005 decreased year-on-year (-0.4%) for the first time since 2001. China-bound production for the Atenza/Mazda6 and Axela/Mazda3 increased, while North America-bound Atenza/Mazda6 (-20.0% year-on-year) and India-bound Titian truck (-36.8%) production decreased, resulting in a slight decrease overall.
