Mazda Production and Sales Results for June 2008 and for January through June 2008 (Flash Report)

Mazda Motor Corporation’s production and sales results for June 2008 and for January through June 2008 are summarized below.

1. Domestic Production
(1) June 2008
The domestic production volume for June 2008 increased 16.8% compared to June 2007, mainly due to greater production of the Mazda3 (known as the Axela in Japan), Mazda2 (Demio), and Mazda6 (Atenza).

Mazda3 (Axela):  37,212 units (up 0.7% year-on-year)
Mazda2 (Demio):  18,775 units (up 231.3% year-on-year)
Mazda6 (Atenza):  13,547 units (up 43.0% year-on-year)

 

(2) January through June 2008
The domestic production volume for the period from January through June 2008 exceeded the figure for the same period last year, up 20.5% year-on-year, mainly due to increased production volumes of the Mazda2 (Demio) and Mazda6 (Atenza).

Mazda2 (Demio):  101,285 units (up 201.3% year-on-year)
Mazda6 (Atenza):  83,155 units (up 50.1% year-on-year)
CX-7:  35,313 units (up 20.0% year-on-year)

 

2. Overseas Production
(1) June 2008
Although sales of the Mazda6 and BT-50 pickup were brisk, the overseas production volume for June 2008 decreased 11.6% compared to June 2007.

Mazda6:  7,941 units (up 6.3 % year-on-year)
BT-50:  5,838 units (up 6.3% year-on-year)

 

(2) January through June 2008
Despite healthy sales of the Mazda6, BT-50 pickup, and Mazda3, overseas production for the period January through June 2008 decreased 7.8% over the same period last year.

Mazda6:  61,129 units (up 11.1% year-on-year)
BT-50:  38,956 units (up 3.0% year-on-year)
Mazda3:  18,793 units (up 9.6% year-on-year)

(1) June 2008
Despite healthy sales of the Mazda6 (Atenza), the domestic sales volume for June 2008 decreased 8.6% over the same month last year.
Mazda’s registered vehicle market share was 5.0% (down 0.5 points year-on-year), with a 3.1% share (up 0.2 points) of the micro-mini segment and a 4.3% total market share (down 0.3 points).

Mazda6 (Atenza):  1,137 units (up 80.8% year-on-year)

 

(2) January through June 2008
Although sales of the Mazda2 (Demio) and Mazda6 (Atenza) were brisk, the domestic sales volume for the period January through June 2008 decreased 0.6% over the same period last year.
Mazda’s registered vehicle market share was 5.8% (down 0.1 points year-on-year) with a 3.1% share (up 0.2 points) of the micro-mini segment and a 4.8% total market share, unchanged from the same period last year.

Mazda2 (Demio):  35,438 units (up 13.6% year-on-year)
Mazda6 (Atenza):  10,318 units (up 129.1% year-on-year)

 

III. Exports

(1) June 2008
June 2008 exports exceeded the volume for the same month last year, up 37.2% year-on-year, mainly due to increased shipments of the Mazda3, Mazda6 and Mazda2.
On a market basis, exports to all regions increased; in particular, exports to Europe, Oceania and other markets (the Middle East and Asia) were healthy.

Mazda3:  38,144 units (up 12.2% year-on-year)
Mazda6:  13,375 units (up 58.1% year-on-year)
Mazda2:  12,062 units (up 6350.3% year-on-year)

 

(2) January through June 2008
Exports for January through June 2008 exceeded the figure for the same period last year by 22.7%, mainly due to increased shipments of the Mazda2, Mazda6 and Mazda CX-7.
On a market basis, exports to Europe, Oceania and other markets (the Middle East, Asia and Africa) were healthy.
