Mazda Production and Sales Results for January 2008 (Flash Report)

Mazda Motor Corporation’s production and sales results for January 2008 are summarized below.

Note: As of January 2007, overseas production figures are based on Mazda brand units coming off the production line (does not include CKD kits).

 

1. Domestic Production
Additional production of the all-new Mazda2 (known as the Mazda Demio in Japan) bound for Europe and increased production of the Mazda6 (Atenza), CX-7 and MX-5 (Roadster), among other models, led to a 20.3% rise in total domestic production compared to January 2007.

Mazda2 (Demio): 14,654 units (up 169.3% year-on-year)
Mazda6 (Atenza): 14,723 units (up 49.0% year-on-year)
CX-7: 6,593 units (up 25.7% year-on-year)
MX-5 (Roadster): 3,984 units (up 31.7% year-on-year)

 

2. Overseas production
Although production of the Mazda6, Mazda3, Tribute and other models was healthy, total overseas production in January 2008 was down 11.0% year-on-year due to the end of production of Familia and Premacy models in China since FAW established itself as an independent brand.

Mazda3: 4,324 units (up 86.1% year-on-year)
Tribute: 2,571 units (up 15.9% year-on-year)
BT-50: 5,904 units (down 3.0% year-on-year)

 

II. Domestic sales

Despite brisk sales of the Mazda2 (Demio), MPV and Mazda5 (Premacy) due to the new model effect, domestic sales decreased slightly, down 0.2% year-on-year in January 2008.
Mazda’s registered vehicle market share was 6.8%, down 0.2 points on January 2007, with a 3.5% share of the micro-mini segment (unchanged from last year) and a 5.6% total market share, which is down 0.1 points over last year’s result.

Mazda2 (Demio): 5,656 units (up 23.7% year-on-year)
Mazda5 (Premacy): 2,453 units (up 11.6% year-on-year)
MPV: 2,306 units (up 17.2% year-on-year)

 

III. Exports

Exports increased over the same period last year, up 5.4% over January 2007, mainly due to brisk sales of the Mazda2 and increased shipments of the all-new Mazda6, which has commenced sales in Europe.
On a market basis, exports to Europe, Oceania and other markets (the Middle East, Asia and Latin America) were healthy.

Mazda6: 11,728 units (up 11.0% year-on-year)
CX-7: 5,861 units (up 11.9% year-on-year)
