Production and Sales Results

In September 2006, Mazda's domestic production, exports, and overseas production figures exceeded the figures for the same month in 2005 due to steady sales of the Mazda CX-7 and Mazda3. The domestic production, exports and overseas production figures for the six-month period from April to September 2006 also rose above the figures for the same period last year.

(1) September 2006
For 11 straight months since November 2005, domestic production volumes exceeded those for the same month last year, up 1.0% over September 2005. The increase reflects the additional production of the North America-bound Mazda CX-7 and increased production of the Mazda5 and Mazda3.
(2) April through September 2006
For the third consecutive year since 2004, domestic production volumes for the period April through September exceeded those for the previous year, up 8.4% over 2005. These positive results reflect the rise in production resulting from the launch of the new Mazda CX-7 bound for the North American market and steady exports of the Mazda5 and Mazda MX-5.

(1) September 2006
Domestic sales volumes for September 2006 were down 8.7% on September 2005. Although sales of the Mazda3, Mazda Verisa, and the Scrum truck were steady, reduced overall domestic demand and diminished new model impact of the Mazda6 offset total sales. Mazda's registered vehicle market share in Japan was 6.1% (down 0.4 points from September 2005) with a 2.9% share of the micro-mini segment (up 0.3 points year-on-year) and a 5.0% total market share (down 0.3 points from the same month last year).
(2) April through September 2006
Sales volumes for the period from April to September 2006 were below the figures for the same six-month period the previous year, down 7.1% compared to 2005. Despite steady sales of the Mazda MPV, AZ-Wagon and commercial vehicles, lower sales volumes for Mazda5 and Mazda6 led to an overall decline. Mazda's registered vehicle market share in Japan was 6.0% (down 0.2 points over the same period last year) with a 2.7% micro-mini segment share (up 0.1 points year-on-year) and a total market share of 4.8% (down 0.2 points).

These results mainly reflect increased export volumes of the Mazda CX-7 and Mazda3. On a market basis, exports to North America and Europe showed steady growth. Notably, increased exports of CX-7 and Mazda3 to North America led to a total export of 25,908 units, up 19.4% over September 2005.
(2) April through September 2006
For the third consecutive year since 2004, April through September export figures have exceeded those from the same period the previous year, up 16.3% year-on-year. This result is attributable to the increased export volumes of the Mazda CX-7 and Mazda5. On a market basis, exports of Mazda CX-7 to North America were particularly healthy, contributing to a total export volume of 149,160 units, up 39% year-on-year.
