Mazda Production and Sales Results for June 2006 and for January through June 2006

Production and Sales Results

In June 2006, Mazda's domestic production, exports, and overseas production figures exceeded the previous year's figures due to steady demand for the Mazda CX-7 and Mazda6. During January through June 2006, Mazda's domestic production, exports, and overseas production figures also rose above the figures from the same period last year. This increase reflected healthy sales of new models such as the CX-7 and MX-5.

Passenger Cars 79,356 +10.7 438,998 +14.1
Commercial Vehicles 5,747 -20.6 31,775 +23.4
Total 85,103 +7.9 470,773 +14.7

(1) June 2006
For eight consecutive months since November 2005, domestic production volumes exceeded those for the same month last year (up 7.9% over June 2005). The improved results reflect the start of production of the North America-bound CX-7 and increased production of the Mazda6 and Mazda MX-5.

(2) January through June 2006
For the fourth consecutive year since 2003, domestic production volumes for the period January through June exceeded that of the previous year, up 14.7% over 2005. This figure reflects the rise in production resulting from the launch of the new CX-7 model bound for the North American market, and the positive impact on exports of new models Mazda5 and MX-5, which elevated production volumes.

Total 23,711 -7.7 149,967 -3.4

(1) June 2006
Domestic sales volumes decreased for the fourth consecutive month since March 2006, down 7.7% year-on-year. Although sales of the MPV, Mazda3 and MX-5 were steady, diminished new model impact on sales of Mazda5 offset the increase. Mazda's registered vehicle market share in Japan was 5.7% (down 0.2 points year-on-year), with a 2.7% share for the micro-mini segment (down 0.2 points year-on-year) and a 4.7% total market share (down 0.3 points).

(2) January through June 2006
For the first time since 2002, domestic sales volumes for the period January through June were below the figures for the same period in the previous year, down 3.4% compared to 2005. Although sales of the MX-5, MPV, and commercial vehicles were healthy, lower sales volumes for Mazda3 (which underwent a model upgrade in June) and Verisa led to an overall decline compared to the previous year's results. Registered vehicle market share in Japan was 6.0% (down 0.1 points year-on-year), with a 2.8% share of the micro-mini market (unchanged from last year's result) and a total market share of 4.9% (down 0.1 points year-on-year).

Commercial Vehicles 376 -45.3 1,705 +30.7
Total 61,388 +23.0 340,189 +23.2

(1) June 2006
For 11 consecutive months since August 2005, exports have exceeded the figures for the same month in the previous year, with June exports up 23.0% over June 2005. These results mainly reflect the increased exports of the CX-7 and MX-5 models. On a market basis, robust exports of Mazda5 and Mazda6 to Europe contributed to this increase, leading to a total export of 27,409 units (up 63.5% over June 2005).

(2) January through June 2006
Export figures for January through June exceeded those of the same period in the previous year for the first time in two years, up 23.2% over 2005. This is attributable to an increase in CX-7 and MX-5 exports. On a market basis, exports to North America and Europe showed steady growth. Exports to North America were 130,297 units, rising 38.0% year-on-year, with increased exports of the CX-7, MX-5, and Mazda5 models as the major contributors.

Passenger Cars 17,900 +7.7 123,866 +31.2

(1) June 2006
Overseas production volumes increased for the sixth straight month since January 2006, up 9.1% over the figures for June 2006. These positive results mainly reflect increased overseas production of the Mazda6 and the BT-50 pickup truck. On a country basis, production of the Mazda6 in China was particularly strong, helping the total production volume reach 12,340 units (up 16.2% year-on-year).
(2) January through June 2006
For the first time since 2004, overseas production volumes increased over the same period in the previous year, up 25.7% for January through June 2006, which is a record for this six-month period. This mainly reflects increased overseas production volumes of Mazda3 and Mazda6. On a country basis, in particular the increased production of Mazda6 in China led to an increase to 76,566 units (up 61.1% year-on-year).
