For seven straight months since November 2005, domestic production volumes
exceeded that for the same month last year, with May 2006 up by 19.3% on
May 2005. The significantly improved results reflect the increased production
volumes of CX-7, Mazda5, MX-5 and Mazda2.

Domestic sales volumes decreased for the third consecutive month since
March 2006, down 5.5% year-on-year. Despite steady sales of the MX-5 and
commercial vehicles, this figure reflects reduced overall domestic demand
and slower sales of the current Mazda3 prior to being restyled in June
2006. Mazda's registered vehicle market share in Japan was 6.4% (up +0.1
points over May 2005), with a 2.6% market share (-0.1 points) for the micro-mini
segment and a 5.0% total market share, which is unchanged from last year's
result.

For ten consecutive months since August 2005, exports have exceeded the
figures for the same month last year, with May 2006 exports up 9.4% on
May 2005. These positive results mainly reflect the increased exports of
CX-7, Mazda5 and MX-5. On a market basis, in particular, the rise in North
America-bound exports of models such as CX-7 and MX-5 led to an increase
to 22,424 units in May 2006 (an increase of 37.0% over the same month last
year).

Note: Overseas production units are calculated based on the parts and component
shipments for Mazda brand models to be assembled at overseas production
facilities.
Overseas production volumes increased for the fifth consecutive month since
January 2006 (+4.8%). Due to an increase of production volumes of Mazda3
and BT-50 pickup trucks, Mazda posted the highest single month of overseas
production for the month of May. On a country basis, production in Thailand
was robust due to increased BT-50 truck production, with total production
reaching 4,637 units in May 2006, which was an increase of 61.2% over the
figure for the same month last year. |
