Mazda is promoting a range of programs aimed at harmony between driving pleasure and environmental and safety performance. For instance, with the new Mazda Demio we obtained a weight reduction of 100kg compared with the previous model. And we installed our unique idling stop system gi-stoph in the new Axela and Biante. These latest Mazda models are spearheading our drive towards a sustainable future.
gi-stoph is a Mazda-developed idling stop system. When you brake and bring the vehicle to a halt, gi-stoph shuts down the engine automatically. And when you step off the brake, gi-stoph directly injects fuel into a cylinder and ignites it to instantaneously restart the engine. This realizes comfortable driving and also helps the FWD 2.0-liter Axela return fuel economy of 16.4km/L*1 (under the 10-15 mode fuel consumption introduced by Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport [MLIT]), putting it at the top of its class*2. Owing to positive approval from users gi-stophequipped models accounted for 50% of total sales of the new Axela since its launch, and about 70% of Biante sales.
