In 1985, in just the first year of the Group B RX-7's debut, at one of the toughest rallies in Europe, the Acropolis Rally, I. Carlsson placed third overall in his RX-7. A. Warmbold, also driving a Group B RX-7, came in 6th place, as both drivers posting positive results. With the entry of the Audi Sport Quattro, the trend toward 4WD had begun, the rear-wheel drive RX-7 placed third overall, following the factory Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 and the Audi Sport Quattro.
