6.The e70s oil shock ends Mazdafs rivalry with the Skyline GT-R
Mazda dominated the Japan Grand Prix in 1973, with RX-3s taking all of the seven top spots.
In November, the Fuji Grand Champion Race was billed as the final showdown in the long-standing battle with the Skyline GT-R because plans to enter the race the following year had been scrapped due to the oil shock. Determined to win and set a new course record, the race team pushed the RX-3sf maximum rpm up to 9,500. One of the RX-3s claimed pole position, but an unfortunate accident just before the start caused the race to be cancelled. Although the battle with the Skyline was unsettled, the RX-3 remained unbeaten until its retirement.
